When we come to God for salvation we receive His abundant life, but He has much more for us beyond that initial event. He has set us apart for a purpose and made plans to enable us to fulfill it. He has given us everything we need to succeed in our hands and in our hearts and arranged for us to find what may be lacking in someone near us. He is always watching over us for our good and seeking to bless us! What we need to do is invest in the gifts, and abilities that He has invested in us. In the parable of the talents the man who had one decided to exercise his faith and energy in a negative way by hiding it instead of using it so it could grow.
When we channel our faith in a positive way by investing in the gifts and abilities God has given us they grow and reproduce and God gives us more.
Apprehended by Faith
If we hide or hoard what He has given us, then He will take what we do have and give it to someone else. At any moment that we hear a word from God listen to it and add faith to that word saying, “Yes, I want that, I believe God wants to give it to me, I will have it,” then we will pull what we want from heaven into our lives. If we don’t apprehend it by faith then it will pass us by and our lives will not be changed by the word.
The difference between those who are changed by His word and those who are not is desire, determination, and daily choices. The Shunammite woman saw a prophet who carried the word of God and applied her gifts and talents of kindness and hospitality in a positive way with faith. The result was that she received what she wanted from God, a son.
Now the devil hates life and will always pursue those who are determined to pursue it. The Shunammite put time, money, and effort into building a place for Elijah—the word of God in her life—then she fought through labor to deliver her son, and just at the time of harvest he died! But that did not stop her. She continued to address the situation positively and with faith even in the face of death. She went back to the source, sought out the word of God through the prophet and insisted on the restoration of her desire that she knew had been fulfilled by God.
- How are you investing in the gifts and abilities that God has invested in you? If you aren’t sure, make a plan with practical steps, write it down, and start.
- What are the things that you want badly enough to insist on having them from God?
