The life of God is likened to a river of living water so powerful that it becomes a fountain. This life increases in us internally providing us with all the power and everything necessary to walk in the character of God. Unlike the early disciples, we do not have to spend forty days waiting for it. It’s inside us now, and is meant to continually increase and flow from us reproducing life wherever we go.
It’s an inside out journey we are on with Jesus. His life has to increase inside before it can increase outside.
Flowing with Love & Grace
This life is the foundation of everything else in our walk with God. It flows from His Spirit through our new hearts making us like Christ and touching people around us with God’s love. Apart from it the revelation and vision He has for our lives are meaningless. This same spirit that flowed with life through Christ is now in us so that we can continually grow and gain strength. It is like when Jesus appeared to the disciples after the resurrection, He was the same man that had walked with them before the cross. Now He was glorified, but still the same man. Our new hearts pump the life of God throughout our being making us like the glorified Christ, the same person we always were, but more alive than ever before.
Because it is where he finds life, the spirit man in us will choose to walk according to God’s statutes not because he has to, but because he wants to.
We need to live into what we are, people moved by His Spirit with a heart full of His love and grace. As God’s life in us grows and increases our hearts overflow with His love and we don’t want to be selfish anymore, and we are that person now.
It is now we need to believe it, so it will change the way we think and live now.
We did not sign up with God for a self-improvement program. We have been set free to live everyday in what He has already done for us, to enjoy loving God and men and to understand who we are in Him. If we do not come to this place our whole life is spent in a battle trying to do better all the time, struggling to be like Christ from the outside in, rather than having His life flowing from inside like a fountain of living water, bringing His refreshing presence to everyone we meet.
- Are you engaged in a constant battle or have you discovered who you are in Christ, full of His life and free to be the person He made you to be?
- Ask God (and a good friend) to help you see areas where you are still battling, seek wisdom, obey His instructions and trust Him to help you change.
